Most kitchens will have seams. Whether your kitchen has one or more seams depend on the layout, design and configurations of your countertops. The more angles or “returns” will result in additional seams.
U-shaped Kitchens typically have more seams than one with little or no angles or returns. We take great care to ensure seams are vein-matched, flat, and as narrow as a sheet of paper. Our Installers at work very hard to make seams as unnoticeable as possible.
The most popular countertops we offer are: Granite, Marble, Quartz, and Quartzite.
What is Granite?
Granite is a very hard natural stone. Each individual slab may be unique and differ from slab to slab which can include veining, shading, pitting, fissures, and dull spots. RSG has no control over these irregularities that occur in raw material.
What is Marble?
Marble is a soft, porous material that requires routine sealing. Marble can be susceptible to scratching, staining, and etching. Marble can have pattern and color variations, fissures, water spots, pits, blemishes, and dull spots. RSG has no control over these irregularities that occur in raw material.
What is Quartz?
Quartz is engineered material that is made of ground quartz and resin bound together. Quartz is nonporous and does not require sealant.
What is Quartzite?
Natural stone that is strong and durable, but not indestructible Quartzite can scratch and be damaged by sharp objects. Each individual slab may be unique and differ from slab to slab which can include veining, shading, pitting, fissures, and dull spots.
Granite
Granite is surprisingly a very low maintenance countertop. Do not use harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners. Avoid bleach, vinegar, or anything acidic. These harsh chemicals can cause the sealer to break down. Even with a protectant sealer, granite can still be susceptible to staining from deep color liquids or things that are highly acidic. Examples: Red wine, lemons, limes, etc. To reduce staining, rings, or etching, immediately clean the contacted area.
Marble
Marble is one of the more porous stones. Water-based sealers are best for polished marbles, while solvent-based sealers better protected honed-finished marble.
Quartz
Caution should be used with direct heat to your countertops. Although quartz is stain resistant, it is not stain proof. Immediately clean spills Avoid using harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners.
Quartzite
Do not use harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners. Avoid bleach, vinegar, or anything acidic. These harsh chemicals can cause the sealer to break down. Some quartzites can be very porous and will require additional sealing applications.
Sealer was applied to natural stone at the time of installation. Sealer does not fill pits or make the stone feel smooth. It does not sit on the surface of the stone.; it seals the pores of the stone. Some natural stone may require more than one application of sealer depending on how porous the stone is.
Granite and marble can withstand very high temperatures. Placing hot pans or a hot kettle will not cause damage to the color or stability; however, it is recommended that you use trivets because of other reasons.
Extra caution should be taken for quartz and quartzite, as they can get damaged from exposure to excess heat. Ensure you use heat protectors such as coasters, hot pads and trivets to protect the countertops from heat damage.
No. Due to the non-porous nature of countertops, they are resistant to bacteria and fungus. The Center for Disease Control did not find any evidence to suggest that bacteria could grow in countertops.
